Class Descriptions
Yoga Classes are 75 - 90 minutes long.
Hatha Flow Yoga: This is the best description for the style of yoga that is taught at Laughing Bodies. Hatha yoga is the term for any style yoga that incorporates poses and movement of the body. Rebecca's background has included many styles of hatha yoga including Iyengar, Asthanga, Integral, Jivamukti and most recently a 2 year training with Mary Paffard. After many years of practice and teaching for over 10 years Rebecca combines a focus on alignment of the bones as well as incorporating breath and movement. Sometimes poses are held and repeated so students can understand the correct alignment. Other times we flow through poses so students can enjoy moving their body and coordinate the movement with breath. We always encourage students to work within their own limits. See detailed descriptions below for individual classes.
Beginner Hatha Flow Yoga - Traditional style hatha yoga. Postures, breath work and relaxation are all part of the class. Instruction level is fairly detailed and yoga props are used to help aid the student in finding proper alignment. This class is appropriate for new students and those recovering from an injury, or those who are very stiff. Focus is on learning basic yoga postures giving the student a solid introduction and foundation to a variety of yoga postures. A limited amount of flow yoga is incorporated to help loosen the joints and warm up the body. All levels are welcome!
Mixed Level Hatha Flow Yoga: Mixed level welcomes those with yoga experience or new students who have no injuries and are physically active. A series of flow-like movements are used to warm up the body followed by an emphasis on alignment. Postures range from beginner poses to more advanced beginner poses. Options are offered with or without props to either simplify a pose or make it more challenging. It is helpful to have some experience with yoga but not necessary. However there is less focus on beginner alignment in this class as it is presumed you already know the basics. Please do not attend this class if you are struggling with an injury unless you check with Rebecca first. If you are uncertain whether you should try this class check with Rebecca or just be game and show up!!
Intermediate Hatha Flow Yoga: This class requires that one have yoga experience. Class includes a series of flow-like movements to warm up the body and then detailed alignment information is given for more intermediate poses. Unlike a mixed level class where we give options for poses - in this class it is important that you know what you are capable of doing and how to adjust for more challenging poses. We don't say this to discourage anyone from coming; but this class is for those who have made a commitment to yoga and have practiced for a number of years so that the instructor is able to focus more on challenging postures.
Private/semi-private Yoga lessons: private or semi-private yoga lessons are designed specifically for your body. Sessions run 60 minutes in length. Whether you are recovering from an injury or illness, feel shy about attending a group class or would like to develop a home practice -these sessions will challenge and encourage you. A wide range of options are offered at these sessions - alignment of the poses, restorative poses for healing, meditation, visualization or vigorous flow sequences. Package of 5 for one person: $225.00. Package of 5 for 2 persons: $125.00 per person. Package of 5 for 3 persons: $100.00 per person.
Pilates Mat classes: are 60 minutes in length. These classes are designed to introduce students to basic fundamentals: breathing, posture and body alignment and core strengthening. All students soon progress through 22 beginner exercises emphasizing form, control, relaxation and stamina. Participants continue to develop all 33 mat exercises according to their own level of competency. Exercises are modified when necessary. Props such as the Magic Circle, foam roller, mini balls, physioballs, toning balls and stretch tubes add challenge to the mat exercises. Enjoy a major lifestyle renovation by training within the Pilates Method.
Private Pilates Session: one-on-one training on specialized Pilates equipment. Whether you are recovering from an injury or an athlete wanting to further your training or a post partum mother, Pilates is an opportunity to develop a strong core which translates to a stronger, healthier body. Laughing Bodies offers the only place in Crossville with this top of the line equipment. You can feel and see a difference in just 10 sessions!
Duet Pilates sessions: Duets offer the same individualized training as a private session, but you have the opportunity to work with a partner. If you are brand new to Pilates, consider taking private sessions first so that you can learn the fundamentals. Our instructor can then pair you up with someone that is appropriate for you fitness level.
Aqualates: Offered in Fairfield Glade Community Center. Combine O, CO2, and H2O for a mind, body and spirited pool adventure! This class combines classic moves of Pilates, Yoga, and Tai Chi while standing in the water for a relaxing yet restorative workout. Participants will develop deep breathing, heighten awareness when relaxing tight muscles, strengthen core muscles, and improve posture and balance while moving within the resistance of the water. The cushioning effect of the water makes it an ideal environment for clients who cannot tolerate weight-bearing exercise. Exercising in the water provides a high level of energy expenditure with a minimum amount of strain on the joints. In addition participants will utilize water props such as noodles and resistance gloves to develop core strength and agility.
Private Aqualates Instruction: Enjoy individualized Aqualates instruction with Sue now offered at the Fairfield Glade Community Complex.
The one hour instruction combines an aerobic warm-up, water resistance with specialized equipment, core strengthening by means of standing and suspended Pilates movements, plus Yoga and Tai Chi movement choreographed within the resistance of the water.
This instruction is recommended for people who need to improve their balance, core strength, and their ability to relax in the water. This is also a beneficial exercise program for expectant mothers.
